Be an overcomer in life’s seasons of trials

I’m learning that it ain’t going to be an easy road living your life for God. There ARE going to be trials, why you say? Because testing of faith produces endurance, endurance leads to complete development in your faith. We need to remember that in everything God is working on us, equipping us to fulfill our purposes in Him.

While we go through trials, there will be times when nothing makes sense. There may be prolonged seasons of wait, seasons of discouragements, seasons of drought, seasons of testing, seasons of sickness, seasons of pain, seasons of all sorts. As we strive to push past these, relying on our own strength and optimism to overcome each moment of distress, it becomes more and more difficult to stand firm in faith, moreover it becomes easier to start doubting God and His promises.

When I relied only on my own strength/ability ( that’s a quick default for many – ‘ Ah, I can overcome this on my own for now’ ) to overcome each moment of wait or discouragement or any season of trial, I realized that I simply got back up to fall back down even more easily. Not only that, you feel more tired and low. Why so? Because we are trying to depend on our own ability/strength.
The fight is spiritual, God uses trials for our good, to equip us with everything we need to fulfill our purposes in Him while at the same time, devil makes use of every opportunity, especially during these trials, to pull us down in our faith in Christ. So how then to pass through these seasons?

By relying on God’s strength.

What can be more powerful, given by God Himself for us to use in every circumstance, than His very own Words, God-breathed Word of God is right in our hands. Yes, God has given us a powerful weapon to use at anytime. It’s His Word.

This is what I neglected to use making me finally vexed with my state thus leading me to completely surrender my strength and tapping into God’s power over the situation. When I started relying on God’s strength, using His Word, I experienced the power that is there in the Word of God. I realized that I stood back up with greater strength and vigor. Each time I fought using the Word of God as my strength in my moments of trials, I would be stronger than before, not tired and low as was the case when I relied only on my strength. I would stand back up with an increased faith in God over my life rather than an exhausted faith which was the case when I relied on just my own ability to overcome the situation.

I don’t know what circumstance you might be passing through but I encourage you to rely on God’s strength, pray, sift through the scriptures for what God promises over your situation, use those God-breathed Words over your life, note them down and every time you doubt, bring out those Words and read them over, you will definitely feel God’s hand coming through to you, over your situation, over your life because the fight is not yours but God’s. Be reassured that our Lord is working out everything for our good.

Below I’ve shared my list of verses from the Bible that help me over my seasons, hope it helps you too! 🙂

Prayer:

Dear Lord, these seasons of trials are too much for me. I can’t do this on my own. I’ve relied too much on my own strength till now but now I choose to rely on Your strength to overcome every situation in my life. I surrender my everything into Your hands for the battle is Your’s Lord. Help me to use Your Word for my every trial, for the Word of God is powerful. Lead me through to victory, Lord. I trust You, I love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Here’s my list of verses for God’s strength:

When feeling tempted…
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When you remember your past

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

When feeling lost without purpose…
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When feeling inadequate…
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

When feeling unforgiving…

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When feeling unloved…

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

When feeling guilty of our sins

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
